About Dr. Denise McGuire and Elena King

Dr. Denise McGuire is a licensed psychologist, performance coach and founder of Get in the Zone, a company which utilizes leading-edge technology and scientifically grounded methods to help golfers optimize their performance both on and off the course.

Dr. Denise believes that golfers can learn to play in their optimal zone through developing greater awareness of their mental, emotional and physiological tendencies during performance.  She uses biofeedback to assist her clients in developing greater awareness of muscle tension, breathing and emotional responses related to performance.  Dr. Denise brings many years of experience in using mind-body approaches to improve health from her work at the Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Colorado Hospital.

Offering an integrated model of instruction, Dr. Denise works closely with PGA and LPGA teaching professionals to tailor the best performance plan for each golfer.  She credits her training with Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson from Vision 54 and Fred Shoemaker of Extraordinary Golf in shaping her beliefs and her approach to working with golfers. Her clients include both professional and amateur players ranging from beginners to high school, collegiate, LPGA tour players and mini tour golfers.

Dr. Denise is passionate about junior golfer development and understands the importance of supporting both junior golfers and their parents in reaching their goals and navigating the world of competitive junior golf.  She works with many junior golfers some of whom are state champions and are top-ranked in the nation.  She has been interviewed in various media, including magazines, television, and FM, AM and web radio.  Her column appears regularly in Colorado Avid Golfer.

Elena King is a Class A Member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Division and a graduate of the University of Iowa where she was captain of the golf team for three years.  She is an accomplished player with many individual titles both as an amateur and a professional.

Prior to becoming the Director of Instruction at CommonGround, Elena spent five years at the McGetrick Golf Academy as an instructor.  During that time she refined her approach and philosophy to instruction to include overall performance and player development.  Elena’s approach to golf instruction is an excellent fit with Get in the Zone.  She is committed to giving back to the game that has given so much to her and to help others discover and experience the life lessons that the game offers.

Elena has a special affinity for the competitive junior player and is a coach and mentor to many of the top players in the state. Together, Elena and Dr. Denise have developed numerous golf programs for juniors and adults that integrates the mental, emotional and technical aspects of the game.

Offering a comprehensive approach to the game, Elena brings her extensive competitive playing and performance development experience to elevating her students’ skill level and increase their overall performance, knowledge and enjoyment of the game. In keeping with her commitment to lifelong learning, Elena frequently attends seminars and education programs and is currently the LPGA T&CP Central Section Education Coordinator. Elena’s beliefs about the importance of creating an optimal learning environment have been shaped by her training at Coach 54 (Vision54) and Extraordinary Coaching (Extraordinary Golf).
